Russia’ ICQ becomes first messenger to cypher voice, video calls

MOSCOW, May 19 (PRIME) -- Russian messenger ICQ has switched on end-to-end cyphering for all calls and has become the first one in the world to encode video connection for all countries, the messenger’s owner, Internet giant Mail.Ru Group said in a statement Thursday.

New versions of ICQ for Android, iOS and Windows automatically cypher voice and video calls with a reliable algorithm. All talks are now confidential, the company said.

Encryption is based on the open protocol ZRTP, providing maximum protection of information and secure keys exchange.

Calls cannot be deciphered either on ICQ’s servers, or at a provider level.
